Join the Truro Dive Team – We Want You!
No previous diving experience required. Children, age 5 to 18 (the summer after high school graduation) can participate. We have the pool, 1-meter boards, highly talented coaches, and ‘can do’ attitudes with team spirit that have made the Truro Dive Team unbeatable. The team competes against other community pool sponsored teams as part of the Northern Virginia Swim League (NVSL), one of the largest leagues in the country with 47 teams and 8 Divisions! Don’t wait … come join us and feel the magic of the Truro dive experience!
Head Coach: Rob Carvajal The best coach in the league, Coach Rob has been the head coach since 1992 and loves his job. Many divers follow him to Woodson HS where he coaches the men and women’s diving teams. From Burke, VA, Coach Rob dove at Lake Braddock HS where he walked on the team as a freshman and dove for 4 years. With over 25 years in the league, Coach Rob uses his story and gift with children to motivate them to work hard, overcome fears and be their best. Assistant Coaches: Current and previous Truro divers (This varies from year to year. Each assistant is selectively asked to coach by Rob and approved by the parent representatives.)
Our Volunteer Support
Participation by all dive families is expected and is fun! The season cannot happen without the support of parents, guardians, and community volunteers. When registering your child you will be given an opportunity to signup to help with both A and B meets including carpooling, setup/cleanup, working scoring tables, working concessions and judging.
Most Truro divers have never stepped on a board or been coached before signing up. Yet each year, the team works hard and achieves great successes including 14 Division 1 titles in the last 18 years and a streak of 8 consecutive years as Division 1 Team Champions, as well as 30+ individual 1M and 3M titles over the past 20 years! At the individual level, quite a few of the divers have developed into high school and college competitors, diving locally and nationally. Some enjoy the sport so much they continue with winter club diving. And we are really proud of the few who have earned college scholarships for their talents! Truro is no ordinary team – each and every diver is encouraged to set individual goals that are right for him or her and are given an unforgettable opportunity to achieve them! At the end of the season, an Awards Ceremony is held and each individual diver is recognized by the coaching staff.
The season typically starts after Memorial Day Weekend and ends the first week in August. There are 5 A meets and 2 B meets. Practice times vary and are usually in the early morning and afternoons.
